Accounting Manager


Summary:
This includes responsibility for, but not limited to general accounting, participating and/or leading process improvement initiatives, judgments with regard to the application of accounting principles and policies, financial reporting, and external/internal audit coordination. This is a hands-on position that may manage a staff of 1 to 6 accountants.
This position will also be responsible for managing and refining various accounting transformation aspects, with an emphasis on improving the monthly closing process and the work streams supporting these activities. Additionally, this position will focus on driving efficiencies, developing staff, and leveraging best practices across the company.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Helps the Controller to plan the overall operations of the general ledger areas and ensures achievement of goals and objectives either directly or through direct reports.
  • Responsible for coordinating and monitoring all activities associated with maintaining the general ledger, including the monthly close process and review of all journal entries for direct reports.
  • Drive continuous improvements with focus to eliminate monthly close inefficiencies to reduce process time.
  • Manage, develop and set goals for staff.
  • Create training curriculum for staff covering accounting topics relevant to current activities and leveraging system capabilities.
  • Oversee the monthly close process, including financial analysis and preparation of various month-end deliverable.
  • Ensure accuracy of financial statements through strict account reconciliation procedures and quarterly Balance Sheet reviews.
  • Develop and maintain financial reporting packages for internal use, executive management and field organizations.
  • Account reconciliation and journal entry review and approval.
  • Improve quality of account reconciliations i.e. account description, process overview and documentation supporting them.
  • Create knowledge vault for the team via SharePoint and detailed desktop procedures
  • Coordinates audit requests from the external auditors, internal auditors and / or compliance
  • Implementation, review and maintenance of SOX controls.
  • Establish relationship with customers with emphasis on creating environment where Controller is looked to as resource for accounting guidance and a business partner.

Requirements:
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (preferred)
  • Master's degree in accounting or business administration preferred
  • CPA Certification Preferred


Experience:

  • 8+ years' experience in accounting, with at least 4 years of management experience.
  • The candidate must have proven ability to supervise and develop staff of 1 - 6 people.
  • The candidate must be comfortable with complex accounting matters and demonstrate competency in US GAAP, current accounting regulations and internal controls.
  • The candidate must have strong communication (oral and written) and relationship building skills.
  • Experience with Great Plains ERP ledger systems is preferred
  • Experience with Blackline software is preferred.
