JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Assistant Executive Director of Technology and Information Security Officer, the Information Systems Security Manager will coordinate and execute security policies and controls, as well as manage security audits, vulnerabilities and threat assessments. As a member of the Technology Department Leadership Team, will provide leadership, escalation support, guidance and training on information system security best practices. In addition, will ensure that we fulfill all required legal and contractual information security and privacy mandates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Design, review, recommend and implement standard security protocols following best practice.
  • Manage high-level enterprise systems' information security in accordance to state and/or federal regulations. Ensure that all systems, procedures and work practices follow established standards of security and quality control.
  • Provide secure, efficient and responsive support of the infrastructure, operational systems and applications utilized by the organization.
  • Create, review, recommend and implement data and information security policies.
  • Manage information/documentation gathering and retention related to information agreements with third party partners.
  • Manage all aspects of system health cycle.
  • Administer and audit information systems identifying vulnerabilities and gaps make recommendations and actively seek ways to ensure all systems are operating securely and adhering to the most up-to-date security protocols.
  • Implement system security best practices to meet all state and/or federal legal and mandated requirements.
  • Actively participate with other members of the Technology department's leadership team and other strategic planning committees to create a vision for how security protocols for technology will support the strategic and operational goals.
  • Provide highly technical escalation support, as well as quality control assurance for the systems.
  • Provide an escalation support role to the various teams and departments responsible for information system management including hardware, software, operating system support, enterprise applications, connectivity and communications. This will involve fieldwork at all locations.
  • Provide leadership and vision to level two escalation support technicians of the department.
  • Develop procedures and documentation to aid in providing a secure and highly functioning environment for both staff and students.
  • Make decisions based on data and related processes in support of stakeholders.
  • Develop and provide information security training to stakeholders.
  • Provide a project management role for system information security topics and / or components for all data and information system implementations and life cycle management. This will include ensuring operational functionality of systems, maintaining systems and vendor software in an operational state, updating and patching, system monitoring by reviewing and acting on system logs and application information.
  • Provide a leadership and project management role for disaster recovery planning, business contingency planning and business resumption planning for critical systems, infrastructure hardware and applications; including data retention and backups.
  • Employ effective use of asset management to ensure the assets are secured, documented and maintained.
  • Create, employ and maintain the effective use of documentation and communication in support of essential functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • BS or BA degree in Information Security or related field or comparable knowledge and skills gained through work experience
  • Minimum three years of work experience supervising staff preferred
  • Certifications addressing security and risk management, asset security, security engineering, communications and network security, identity and access management, security assessment and testing, security operations, software development security preferred


  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal as well as technical and non-technical communication skills).
  • Ability to work successfully under direction, independently and in conjunction with other departmental and team members that have varying levels of technical expertise.

  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and juggle multiple activities and projects.
  • Ability to provide technical support and training to end users in "laypersons' terms" at their technical level while responsive to personnel availability.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule if needed; either five (5) eight (8) hour days or four (4) ten (10) hour days with a potential start time between 6 am and 9 am; Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to perform active fieldwork, in accordance with physical activity demands specified.
  • Valid driver's license with own vehicle as this position requires the staff member to drive between locations throughout Bolingbrook and Romeoville on a daily basis; work locations vary and can change on a daily basis.
  • Willingness to continued learning by attending workshops, security conferences and formal training
