Desktop Engineer

Our client, a leading Washington, DC law firm, has an opening for a Desktop Engineer to join its Information Services Department. As an integral member of the Desktop Engineering team, this role is responsible for the quality, stability and reliability of the firm's desktop, laptop and tablet computing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Architect and maintain the firm's modern desktop management solutions using SCCM and Intune
* Create installation packages for installs and upgrades
* Deploy security updates and administer the installation of fixes, enhancements, and upgrades to supported systems via Microsoft SCCM
* Maintain quarterly update of BIOS, firmware and drivers
* Maintain quarterly roll-up of task sequence to include all updates
* Utilizing SCCM and other utilities, report on the Firm's workstation fleets including PC specifications, PC usage, deployment success, and software usage/metering, compliance
* Maintain version control of SCCM Task Sequences
* Develop and implement test plans for new software and hardware implementation
* Compile and maintain application and workstation design documentation
* Monitor troubleshoot and correct Windows environment flaws and errors
* Assist the Technical Support Services Team in resolving escalated workstation issues
* Assist in the creation of knowledge base articles for Technical Support Services Team to utilize
* Work with customers and other IS staff to troubleshoot and resolve endpoint computing issues, both on-network and through remote access
* Identify opportunities and implement solutions to improve customer satisfaction with the firm's systems
* Flexibility and willingness to respond to issues during and outside of core business hours

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or relevant equivalent work experience required
* Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment a plus
* 5+ years of experience in advanced Windows system design and development and deployment experience in a complex, multi-vendor network environment
* 5+ years of experience implementing, administering SCCM support of system deployments
* Experience with the design and deployment of solutions with SCCM/Intune co-management a plus
* 5+ years of experience using packaging tools for system imaging and application deployment
* Experience integrating, configuring and optimizing software applications and Windows Operating System
* 5+ years of experience in Windows patching, security configurations, compliance reports, and remediation
* 3+ years CLI and scripting experience (i.e. PowerShell, VBScript, Batch)
* Experience working with Active Directory, Active Directory Replication and Group Policies
* Hands-on experience with a wide variety of desktop applications, Microsoft Office365, Document Management Systems, and law-firm specific utilities
* Hands-on experience with remote access and mobile computing solutions including Citrix, and VPN technologies
* Experience monitoring, deciphering and responding to windows telemetry data

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Position operates in a professional office environment which is usually quiet to moderate
* Position requires that the employee have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
* Position requires that the employee analyze and resolve problems according to shifting priorities, time frames, and resources, as well as document resolutions
* This position is primarily a sedentary position. However, some duties and responsibilities are required which would require the applicant to lift files or equipment, open filing cabinets, bend or stand, kneel, stoop or crouch to access equipment, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, occasionally move about to access office equipment, etc.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
* The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
