The Crew Chief will support the project team by leading field aspects of a project, assisting Project Managers in creating and monitoring project budget, maintaining project schedules, training and mentoring crew members as well as other team members, communicating with management, and assembling and managing project teams and progress, all under minimal supervision.


  • Perform survey activities such as leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys and profile and cross section surveys.
  • Perform physical tasks such as line clearing, pounding stakes, setting monuments, and locating critical underground objects.
  • Record field notes legibly and accurately
  • Provide leadership to field crews including supervising, training, coaching and mentoring Crew Members.
  • Recommend changes in specifications, budget, and schedule, consistent with project objectives.
  • Meet client needs and achieve project profitability by maintaining project budget and schedule and report results to management and/or team.
  • Ensure product quality
  • Maintain a current driver's license and keep in good standing.
  • Maintain survey equipment, ensure proper performance of equipment including cleaning, calibration, and software updates.


  • High School Degree or General Education Degree (GED) required. Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Land Surveying or related field preferred.
  • License or Certification (PS, CST) desired.
  • Highly proficient in mathematics and measurements.
  • Two (2) years of experience is required.
  • Demonstrate high level of proficiency at the Survey Crew Member level.
  • Proficient in basic plan reading (i.e., topographic surveys, boundary surveys, etc.).
  • Understanding and application of the following technical skills:

    • Boundary surveys and ALTA NSPS Land Title surveys

    • Leveling and traversing

    • GPS

    • Total stations

    • Data Collectors, Computers, and Email

    • Tree identification

    • Legal descriptions, plan interpretation, and real estate document interpretation (e.g. deeds, easements).
