Our client, a leading Washington, DC law firm, has an opening for an Applications Engineer to join its growing Information Services team. As a member of the Desktop Engineer team, this role works under the direction of the Applications Manager. and is responsible for ensuring the quality, stability, and reliability of the Firm's core business systems. The Applications Engineer also coordinates, designs, configures, and implements firm business systems and applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for the full life-cycle of highly available complex business systems and services
* Scope business requirements for new or existing business systems
* Translate requirements to physical designs while adhering to business processes and meeting performance requirements of existing systems and services
* Integrate multi-tier server-based enterprise systems with client-side applications through the configuration of desktop systems and subsystems. Utilize scripting languages for automation.
* Work with firm attorneys and staff to support, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to business systems and desktop applications
* Prepare accurate written functional and technical documentation of user needs, program functions, and maintenance processes. Create technical documentation for inclusion in the firm's knowledge base to assist with troubleshooting efforts.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or relevant equivalent work experience required
* Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment a plus
* Seven (7) plus years of experience implementing, administering and supporting multiple enterprise level business systems and applications
* Seven (7) plus years of experience with Windows Server technologies, with advanced understanding of the following areas: Computer Networking, Active Directory, File Shares/Permissions, Windows registry, Common Windows Runtimes, Database Systems
* Five (5) plus years of experience reading and writing Windows scripting technologies (i.e. PowerShell) and other command line interface technologies
* Ability to read and write simple database queries
* Experience integrating, configuring and optimizing business systems and applications
* Experience with Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services Manager) and Microsoft SQL Server
* Experience using SCCM for application deployments and upgrades
* Experience monitoring, deciphering and responding to windows telemetry data
* Hands-on experience with remote access and mobile computing solutions

* Position requires adherence to the firm's Information Service's policies, change control processes as well as the firm's security and governance requirements across all administered applications
* Ability to perform off-hours support as needed for system monitoring and maintenance and to assist with time-sensitive customer requests
* Flexibility and willingness to respond to issues during and outside of core business hours

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Position operates in a professional office environment which is usually quiet to moderate
* Position requires that the employee have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
* Position requires that the employee analyze and resolve problems according to shifting priorities, time frames, and resources, as well as document resolutions
* The Firm requires that the duties and responsibilities of this position be performed onsite during scheduled work hours
* This position is primarily a sedentary position. However, some duties and responsibilities are required which would require the applicant to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, occasionally move about to access office equipment, file cabinets, etc.
