Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide process development and engineering design expertise for mineral processing projects.  Use advance knowledge and specialized training in the performance of thermodynamic, chemical, physical and hydrometallurgical analysis to develop systems and unit operations in accordance with contractual obligations and relevant codes and standards.  Coordination with the Discipline Leads, Principals, Project Manager and Engineering Manager is necessary to achieve these requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Develop or cause the following to be designed and developed:

  • Metallurgical test work program design and oversight and metallurgical data analysis and interpretation.
  • Development of process flow diagrams, including mass balances.
  • Development of models such as Metsim, CADSys, Bruno, and JKSimMet.
  • Development of process design criteria.
  • Development of process equipment specifications and data sheets.
  • Development of process operating cost estimates.
  • Assistance in preparation of capital cost estimates.
  • Coordination with the Project Engineering Department and other engineering disciplines and departments.
  • Preparation of studies and reports, including certification as a Qualified Person (QP) or Competent Person (CP).
  • Process Engineers Is may assume leadership roles for studies and less complex projects, at the discretion of the Manager of Projects Mining & Metals.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of operating experience in at least two different types of operating plants in the mining industry, e.g. crushing/grinding, metals flotation concentrator, precious metals recovery, copper solvent extraction/electrowinning, or hydrometallurgical plants.  The experience must include direct experience with the engineers and supervisors responsible for areas of the mine other than processing such as mine planning, mine operations or maintenance.
  • Sufficient industry contacts from present and past associations through operations experience to gain knowledge of imminent potential work and to develop relationships required to be seriously considered to perform the work.
  • Relevant experience in project development, engineering design, consulting and/or technical advisory roles, associated leadership roles, is preferred.
  • Registration as a professional engineer is preferred.
  • Qualified Person and/or Competent Person in areas of expertise or the ability to achieve such status within one year.
